Chromium Picolinate
Metabolism & blood sugarFunction & benefits
Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels and normal macronutrient metabolism (EFSA-authorised claims); it is part of chromodulin, which strengthens the binding of insulin to its receptors on cells.
Dosage & how to use
| Recommended dose | 200–400 µg daily |
| Best time to take | With a meal that contains carbohydrates |
| Frequency | Once daily |
Best forms to choose
Chromium picolinate, in which trivalent chromium is bound to picolinic acid for better absorption than chromium chloride.
Important warnings
EFSA has not set a formal upper limit for trivalent chromium; do not exceed the recommended dose without supervision
Large doses are not for people with kidney or liver failure
Drug interactions
It increases insulin sensitivity and the effect of glucose-lowering drugs; monitor readings if you take insulin or sulfonylureas, to avoid hypoglycaemia.
