Choline Bitartrate
Liver health & cholineFunction & benefits
Choline contributes to normal lipid metabolism, the maintenance of normal liver function and normal homocysteine metabolism (EFSA-authorised claims); it is the building block of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and of lecithin, which carries fat out of the liver.
Dosage & how to use
| Recommended dose | 500–1000 mg daily |
| Best time to take | With breakfast or lunch |
| Frequency | 1–2 times daily |
Best forms to choose
An affordable choice for liver support; phospholipid forms (such as Alpha-GPC and citicoline) cross the blood-brain barrier more efficiently.
Important warnings
EFSA has not set an upper limit for choline; the US upper limit (NIH) is 3500 mg a day from all sources
Excessive doses cause a fishy body odour, diarrhoea and low blood pressure
Drug interactions
Safe with most medicines; it may slightly interfere with anticholinergic drugs.
